Good morning. I do not have a card for you today but I do want to share something that I have always wanted to do and finally trying it.
For those who know me- know that I love to bake. I have been know to decorate a cake or two. :-) Ok so like many many cakes. Weddings, Birthdays, Showers, anything really. So when I make my buttercream icing I use vanilla extract to flavor it. I really dislike using artificial vanilla but the real stuff is so expensive. I have read in so many places on how to make your own.
So that is what I did yesterday. It is a long process so I can not use it right now as it has to sit for several months but I know that it will be oh so worth it. Just think that by the time is is nice and vanillay (yes I know that is not a word but it works here) :-) It will be Christmas time and that means fudge and cookies and all the yummy goodies that I make.
It was so simple to make. There are only two ingredients, vanilla bean pods and vodka. The only thing I had to buy was the vanilla bean pods since I had the vodka on hand. Since this was my first time making it, I only bought 2 and used about a cup of vodka. That is it. So for about 6.00 I will have about 8 oz of vanilla extract. How simple is that. Oh and I did get the looks from both of my kids when they saw me get the Vodka down at 3:00 in the afternoon.
I split open the beans and cut them up so they would fit in the jar and poured in the vodka. That is it. A little more than 12 hours it has already started turning brown. You do need to keep it in a dry dark place. I did open it this morning and it smells so good. I can not wait till December to really smell it.
More cards will come tomorrow. But I had to share this with you.
Have a great day and keep creating.
